Meniere’s disease can be frustrating and debilitating. It is most commonly accompanied by:
- A feeling of fullness in the affected ear
- A spinning sensation called vertigo
- A ringing or buzzing noise in the ear
- Hearing loss
Often these symptoms come on suddenly and can go away just as quickly. At other times, symptoms may linger for hours. This condition continues to baffle the medical community. Most agree that is has something to do with an excessive amount of fluid accumulating in the inner ear as it is not draining properly. This is often due to:
- A faulty immune response
- Allergies
- An injury to the head or neck
- Migraine headaches
Most medical doctors will attempt to treat individual symptoms in the hopes of helping their patients find some form of relief. While this may be helpful for a time, unless the underlying cause is addressed Meniere’s will continue.

Proper Spinal Alignment May Alleviate Meniere’s Disease
It has been seen in various studies that one reason for fluid buildup can be due to a misalignment in the upper neck vertebrae, particularly the atlas (C1) and axis (C2). This area of the neck is more susceptible to misaligning due to the great range of motion it has. Something like a car accident or even a trip and fall can be enough to cause a problem to ensue. Pressure is then placed on the brainstem hindering it from relaying the proper messages to and from the brain and body. Thus, the brain may not be receiving the proper signals about where the body is located in its environment. Also, the misalignment may affect Eustachian tube function.
At Advanced Upper Cervical Chiropractic, we understand how vital a properly aligned spine is to optimal health. Fixing the underlying cause can bring about an end to debilitating symptoms. A study performs with 60 patients suffering from one of the main symptoms of Meniere’s, vertigo, revealed that after receiving care from an upper cervical chiropractor, 48 of them saw their vertigo go away completely. The other participants saw a significant decrease in vertigo severity. We strive to provide similar success for our patients.
