If You Are Experiencing Dizziness, We Can Help

What is Dizziness?

Dizziness is an umbrella term for conditions that leave patients feeling off-balance, unsteady, and light-headed. Dizziness is a common side-effect of numerous medical conditions and is often experienced as a result of intoxication, lack of sleep, getting up too quickly, or vertigo. In more serious cases, dizziness can be an early indicator of migraines, multiple sclerosis, inner ear issues, or epilepsy.

If you’re experiencing regular bouts of dizziness, it is important to speak with a specialist as it can be a sign of a serious underlying health issue. One of the most common culprits of frequent dizziness is a vertebral misalignment in the upper cervical spine.

Signs and Symptoms of Dizziness

Common signs and symptoms of dizziness include a sense of unsteadiness or feeling as though the room is spinning. Depending on the underlying cause of your dizziness, you may experience accompanying symptoms like nausea, vomiting, or sweating.

How the Upper Cervical Spine Affects Dizziness

The upper cervical spine consists of seven vertebrae and forms the topmost segment of the spine. In addition to providing structural support for the neck and lower spine, the upper cervical spine is closely connected to the function of the brainstem, the portion of the brain which connects the central nervous system (CNS) to the spinal cord.

Given the density of nerve roots around the brainstem, any misalignment in this region can cause the affected vertebra to impact nearby nerves. Even a minor misalignment can place pressure on the surrounding nerves, which has a knock-on effect on other bodily functions. For example, pinching or compression of the craniofacial nerves can result in inflammation in the eustachian tubes of the inner ear, altering balance perception and triggering bouts of dizziness or vertigo (the inner ear plays a key role in regulating our sense of balance).

How Our Upper Cervical Treatment for Dizziness Works

If you’re looking for a natural, non-invasive treatment option for your dizziness, consider speaking with an upper cervical chiropractic specialist. Upper cervical chiropractic care is a modern form of chiropractic health care that focuses on the delicate relationship between the upper cervical spine and the CNS.

At Advance Upper Cervical Chiropractic, our board-certified Blair Technique chiropractor, Dr. Noah Kaplan, can help ease your dizziness episodes. During your first consultation with Dr. Kaplan, you’ll typically undergo a series of diagnostic testing to determine whether an upper cervical misalignment could be triggering your dizziness.

Dr. Kaplan employs state-of-the-art 3D-imaging technologies, including cone beam computed tomography (CBCT), to produce a three-dimensional representation of the cranio-cervical junction of your spine. This offers a comprehensive view of your upper cervical spine and will make it easy to pinpoint any misalignments in this region.

If a misalignment is detected, Dr. Kaplan will begin treatment. This process involves the use of gentle and precise correction techniques that coax the upper cervical spine back into alignment. Once the affected vertebrae have been restored to natural alignment, the surrounding nerves can begin to heal, and the symptoms of dizziness should start to dissipate.

If dizziness is preventing you from participating in daily life, get in touch today to speak with Dr. Kaplan about the health of your upper cervical spine. Located in Walnut Creek, California, Dr. Kaplan also services Pleasant Hill, Concord, Lafayette, Danville, San Ramon, Dublin, Pleasanton, and Livermore.
